Juanes 2008.06.25 006SIXTY Colombian musicians from all over the country have united to record a song for peace, in an attempt to mobilize civil society to help end the armed conflict

Singer Carlos Vives and producer Andres Castro brought together the group of musicians from diverse genres (including international sensation Juanes) to record the song, entitled ‘Un paso hacia la paz’ (A step towards peace), in support of the ‘Soy Capaz’ campaign.

A campaign led by local and foreign companies with the aim of raising worldwide awareness of the peace talks currently taking place in Havana, Cuba and helping end more than 50 years of bloodshed.

The Soy Capaz campaign has high-profile support from transnationals like Coca Cola and McDonald’s, and Colombian chains like Crepes & Waffles and Juan Valdez. The peace song is the latest high profile addition to the peace campaign.

Composed by Vives and produced by Latin Grammy winner Ivan Benavides, it is inspired by the legendary “We Are The World” song, which was written in 1985 by artists Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and helped shine a spotlight on starvation in Africa.

According to producer Benavides, the goal of the Colombian track is to “show how everybody is united around the notion of peace.”
