Eleven candidates are vying to replace Gustavo Petro in the Bogota Mayoral elections on October 25 this year. Get to know them:
Clara López – Leader of the centre-left Polo Democratico party, López was the acting mayor of Bogota from 2011-2012.
María Mercedes Maldonado – A member of Petro’s centre-left Progressive Movement Party.
Hollman Morris – The journalist told The Bogotá Post he’s running to “fulfil [his] commitment to history, peace and human rights.”
Rafael Pardo – The Liberal Party politician was acting mayor of Bogota for three months in 2014 during Petro’s brief ouster.
Enrique Peñalosa – This Green Party candidate was mayor of Bogota from 1998-2001.
Daniel Raisbeck – This 33-year-old fringe candidate and history professor is running as a libertarian.
Martha Lucía Ramírez – The Conservative Party candidate is a former Minister of Defence and Foreign Trade, and was ambassador to France.
Carlos Vicente de Roux – The second Green Party candidate in the race, he’s spent most of his career in the private sector.
Antonio Sanguino – This university sociology professor is the third Green Party member to throw his hat in the ring.
Francisco ‘Pacho’ Santos – Former Colombian vice-president under Alvaro Uribe, he is a member of the centre-right Centro Democratico party.
Alex Vernot – This lawyer has the backing of some conservatives, yet he believes Bogota’s public transport should be controlled entirely by the city government.
