Between May 25 and 29, the very best of the BMX cycling world will be in Medellín for the UCI 2016 BMX World Championships. The event will take place on the track named after the reigning Olympic Champion and top favourite in the women’s circuit, Mariana Pajón.

The world number one is the athlete to beat in the women’s tournament. In the men’s tournament, London 2012 bronze medalist Carlos Oquendo will lead the pack for the home team together with national champion Carlos Ramírez. Other Colombian competitors are yet to be confirmed. The World Championship will be the last event that counts for Olympic qualification. Pajón, Ramírez and Oquendo are almost certain to qualify, but they may not be the only ones as more Colombian tickets to Rio are up for grabs.

On Saturday May 28, the men’s and women’s time trial will take place between 12.30pm and 5.30pm. On Sunday the main event, the supercross, will be held for both men and women between 11am and 5pm. For more information on the event visit www.bmx2016.com.co
