The Carnaval de Negros y Blancos was proclaimed by UNESCO as one of the Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of humanity. It traces its origins back to the XVI century. It fuses elements of indigenous traditions, colonial Catholicism and African music brought by slaves.
