Armed gangs lurk in the shadows of Santa Marta taking money from local businesses and, in some cases, attacking them.
It is hard to imagine that armed groups still exert control in the tourist haven of the Sierra Nevada. But while visitors flock to the region to enjoy Parque Tayrona’s jungle-backed beaches, and the lush landscapes of Minca, a darker reality lies under the surface.

I stayed at Paso del mango about 4/5 years ago. What a beautiful spot it was and the staff were amazing. We actually enquired about working there we loved it so much. What a shame.
Your article about the GAO was informative and helpful foe people thinking about moving to Santa Marta. Is the problem in Santa Marta exacerbated because it is a port city? Or perhaps far enough removed from the larger cities to be under manned by law enforcement. Good work keep it up.
I realy want to know Paso del Mango and Mr Fleming is a brave man to share experiences with him.He is a braveand sturburn man and I like brave people like him . is it easy to arrive to paso del mango from Minca? Are there taxis or bike?
