A 47-year-old man hanged himself in the bathroom of an Avianca flight from Bogota to Costa Rica earlier last month, local media reported.
Costa Rican authorities confirmed that the Romanian national was found dead in the toilet at the back of the plane and that he was travelling with a 35-year-old Romanian woman.
According to his travel partner, the deceased man had been nervous on the flight, during which he visited the bathroom on a number of occasions.
She also said the alarms went off when the time came to land and he had not returned to his seat.
According to police reports, five minutes before landing the woman noticed the absence of the man.
She then asked for the assistance of the flight attendant to help her open the bathroom door, after which the body was found.
