As the shortlist for the UK’s top book prize is announced, The Bogota Post takes a look at the six potential winners
The Man Booker prize team shook things up last year when they announced that the competition would be open to any book written in English, where previously only the Commonwealth countries, Ireland or Zimbabwe had been eligible.
That means that for the first time, we see two American authors on the shortlist, along with three Brits and an Australian.
AC Grayling, chair of this year’s judging panel, commented: “It is a strong, thought-provoking shortlist which we believe demonstrates the wonderful depth and range of contemporary fiction in English.”
The books were chosen from a longlist of 13, drawn from an even longer list of 154. The winner of the £50,000 prize will be announced on Tuesday October 14.
